'King John'

venue

Railway Institute

Dates

14th - 19th February 1949

Directors

A. G. Revill & E. D. Marsden

In 1949 the British Empire Shakespeare Society (Derby Branch), as we were then known, presented 'King John' for the first and so far only time to date.

Perhaps the most renowned member in the history of Derby Shakespeare is the actor Alan Bates, who appeared in several shows with us as a young man before attending RADA and going on to a career on stage and screen.  In 'King John' he shared the role of Arthur, the nephew to the King, and appeared in alternating performances throughout the week.

We hope to be able to add more information and photographs from this production soon.
