Our 75th Anniversary

In 1984 our company, which was then called the Derby Shakespeare Society, celebrated 75 years of performing in Derby.

A commemorative booklet was produced to mark the occasion, as well as souvenir programmes for our two wonderful productions, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in March and 'The Comedy Of Errors' in November, both of which proved great successes with audience and perfect onstage celebrations of the society's history and accomplishments.

A book, written by our longstanding member and former chairman Dennis Eddowes, called 'Strange Eventfull Historie' told the story of the first 75 years of Derby Shakespeare Society. From its beginnings as the British Empire Shakespeare Society (Derby Branch) to its glorious 75th year.

A celebration dinner was held at the Penine Hotel on the 27th of April to mark the anniversary and celebrate William Shakespeare's birthday.

We hope to be able to bring you more information and photographs from our 75th anniversary, including excerpts from 'Strange Eventfull Historie' soon.
