"Nothing Will Come Of Nothing…"
King Lear, 2008

King Lear 2008Directed by Alan Smith
Performed at the Guildhall Theatre, Derby

About This Production

The ageing Lear, High King of all Briton, bequeaths his kingdom to his three daughters, relinquishing "all cares of state", and retiring from public life. At a time when consolidation of the monarchy was essential this rash act signals the beginning of a chain of events that spirals out of control. Families and countries are both torn apart as the daughters begin a struggle for overall power. Lear, with the realisation of his folly, swings between sanity and madness with catastrophic outcomes.

The award winning Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company is proud to be returning to The Guildhall in this their centenary year with one of Shakespeare's greatest plays, the tragedy of  King Lear .
