Meet René, the most wanted man in Occupied France:

Women want his body. The Resistance wants his brain. And the Nazis want his sausage!

A priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis has been hidden inside a knockwurst sausage in the cellar of Café René, where two British airmen are also hiding until the Resistance can repatriate them. But when news reaches the town that the Führer himself is scheduled to visit, café owner René Artois must summon all the wit he can muster to save his business...and his life!!

Based on, and from the same writers of, the highly successful BBC classic comedy; ‘Allo ‘Allo is an uproarious comedy taking place in and around Café René in the French rural town of Nouvion during the World War II German occupation. Café owner, René Artois, is the reluctant war hero trying to satisfy demands from both the Germans and the French Resistance whilst having affairs with his waitresses and keeping his overbearing wife happy.

Sit back and enjoy the characters, absurd situations, numerous catchphrases and double-entendres that you know and love from this classic British Comedy!

The stage show ran from 1986 to 1992 including three London stage runs and international tours.

Created by comedy legends Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft the show's premise was not to make fun of the war but to spoof war-based film and TV dramas, in particular Secret Army, a BBC1 drama series dealing with the activities of Resistance workers who returned crashed allied pilots to Britain. 'Allo 'Allo became a successful television series that ran for seven seasons.

It relates the adventures of a hapless cafe owner, Rene, in occupied France, caught between the Gestapo and the Resistance and forced into working with both, René also struggles to hide evidence of his affairs with the waitresses from his wife.

Running Time: 2 hours - approximate, including any interval.

Birthday by Joe Penhall

  • Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company

Shakespeare House opens its doors as a performing venue once again with our production of 'Birthday' by Joe Penhall in January 2017!

The birth of their daughter should be one of the happiest days of Ed and Lisa's life. An NHS maternity ward and their somewhat unusual circumstances make for an unsettling and satisfyingly comic sequence of events that tests their relationship to the core, and raises intrinsic questions about the nature of birth and renewal, fear and isolation.

Subverting the received gender roles to darkly comic and disturbing effect, the play charts Ed and Lisa's personally fraught experience at the behest of an NHS labour ward.

Birthday achieves an intensely comic counterpoint to the visceral domestic drama sutured to bigger issues of aspiration, sacrifice, who we are, how we communicate, the triumph of tolerance, nature and ultimately love"

The cast of four are working incredibly hard to bring out the humour and pathos of this difficult but brilliant play.

Tickets are £5 and will include a Winter Warmer. Please contact Charlotte on 07870 539522 to reserve your seat.
