Following their sell-out production of ‘Allo ‘Allo, Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company are set to wow audiences again in another tale of mistaken identity, this time with a production of Shakespeare’s ‘A Comedy of Errors’ in the grounds of Broomfield Hall.
“Audiences have loved our performances at Broomfield and the enchanted village setting of this show will play out beautifully on the grassy slope beside the hall,” says director Clare Snape.
Welcome to the bustling village of Ephesus, a little fishing community of a time gone by where almost anything can happen. Taking place over the course of a day, the action is non-stop….and a lot can happen in a day!
Join us on a journey of discovery as Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio arrive in Ephesus, where, unbeknownst to them their identical twin brothers have lived for years. The merchant Aegeon relays a tragic story of a shipwreck and a family torn asunder, who despite years of searching are yet to be reunited. Could the events in Ephesus on this extraordinary day, lead to a resolution?
AND of course with two sets of twins around, things can get a little confusing! A series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities will lead to wrongful beatings, a seduction, an arrest, theft, madness, and maybe even demonic possession. Joyful, mystical and brilliantly farcical, Shakespeare’s shortest play is an early romantic comedy of confusion and ultimate reunion.
With a colourful array of characters, this riot of farce and slapstick is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
