'All’s well that ends well’

venue

Shakespeare House

Dates

9th - 12th March 2022

Director

James Dean

In the 114 years since Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company began, there are only a few of the Bard’s plays that we haven’t staged. All’s Well That Ends Well was one of them, that is until Membership Secretary and long-time member James Dean took up the mantle to direct.

This lesser-known play can be tricky to perform - there are a few loose ends that never truly get tied up, often the comedy can get lost amongst the drama, and it can be hard to get on side with the two principle roles of stubborn Bertram and lovelorn Helena. In our production at our studio theatre at Shakespeare House (complete with full bar thanks to a refurb during lockdown), Dean and his talented cast managed to bring to live a version that was both funny and touching.

The three-night run was dedicated to our much-beloved President Ian Arnott, who was thrilled that Derby Shakespeare would finally be putting All’s Well on the stage, but who sadly passed before he was able to see the play performed.
